WWII training manual pageWhen I dove over the side of that airplane into the water which was covered with burning fuel I had a perfect mental picture of this page out of an old training manual, which I had not looked at for at least fifteen years.

I can't remember a word on there except Swimming Through Fire. I have a lousy memory. But I remember the picture of the breaststroke, knocking away the flames to get a breath of air. If I had taken one gulp of flames, I would never have survived. That one page saved my life.
