This
passenger was in this aircraft when it hit a wind shear on final
approach. As it started to gyrate, he went into the bracing position
holding it as they hit and bounced.
He ran forward got a breath of the phosgene gas
from the burning materials. As an Olympic diving coach he
could hold his breath interminably and was the only
passenger without toxic deposits in his lungs.
He opened the emergency exit, jumped off the wing
and out of 101 passengers was one of the four survivors, two of
which, sitting beside him had also read the instructions
and planned their egress.
